"The Water Should be at a Rolling Boil for at Least a Minute"

May 2 2010,

Last night 30 cities / town, in the boston area, including Boston and the town we are in has a "boil water order". What this means is that before consuming water, including for cooking, we need to boil the water. A main pipe burst yesterday, click here to read more about it. The city of Boston is currently declared a state of emergency.

I heard that there is a mad rush to the store to buy bottled water. The lines were an hour long to buy water. No... I haven't resorted to the store yet to buy water. Luckily our new dwelling is not on the list, so I might resort to cooking meals there or resort to Trader Joe's microwaveable meals. There is no news yet how long this will continue for.

Coincidently, a town in Massachusetts call Concord banned the sale of bottled water because of environmental reasons. Unfortunately this town is not on the "boil water order" list. Click here to read more about it. Wouldn't it be hilarious if they had the "boil water order" and how fast they would to reverse the ban on sale of bottled water?

glad ur area isn't affected. if u can't get bottled water, those crazy water filters from camping stores will work too.

Well... the apartment where we are is under the ban. So we're boiling water and and keeping them in big pots. Crazy water filters from camping stores? The best case scenario is the water will be fine by Wednesday.

or go to rei's website and search "water filter". they're typically used for camping but you can use them at home too. a bit pricey, but it's an option. or you can buy 2-liter bottles of lipton iced tea to drink. :) kidding!
