Self Check-Out + Scrabble New Words

May 12 2011,

I was at CVS this morning to shop for some stuff. When I was ready to check out, there were only 4 self check-out terminals and no registers with a cashier behind it. I was appalled. This couldn't be.

In the center of the self check-out terminals was a CVS store employee waiting to assist whoever needed help doing the self check-out.

I asked her if these were the only cash registers and she responded yes.

I am not afraid of technology, I embrace them. But getting rid of ringers / cashiers or moving to a self check-out schema just doesn't sit well with me.

I proceeded to check out  and charged my $2.00 purchase with a credit card out of spite. Yes, it costs them more money to process a credit card then with a cash transaction.

In other news, scrabble today announced an additional 3000 new words added to the official scrabble dictionary.

I love scrabble or any type of word games. I have memorized all the 2 letter words possible and weird / not everyday words that people always seem to raise their eye brows at. My opponents usually don't believe that the word actually exists, but of course when looking it up in the scrabble dictionary, it's always there.

Some new words include the following: Grrl, wagyu, blingy, webzine, inbox, qin, wiki, and even myspace and facebook. I'm on a hunt now to actually see the official 3000 new words that have been added, but can't seem to locate it anywhere on the web.

If you know a place where the new words are published, please share.

Thanks to p00lriah, the Collins Scrabble Words is available here.
