"We're not in Kansas anymore"

June 1 2011,

Currently, we have a tornado watch over in central Massachusetts. There has been a few tornado touch down - we're all panicking.

I wonder if something like comes near our town - if it would be safe to be underneath the pool table.

No basement? If so, that's wehre you go, if not, pool table, not so much. Bathtub is probably better with a blanket over your head to keep glass and such off if windows break.

Indoor closet might also be an option but not if it's a flimsy place.

Stay safe, they aren't fun and I hope it will be a short lived scare.

Hi Sarcastic Quilter -

Yes we do have a half basement, they call it garden level. The pool table is in the basement. It was more of a curiosity question, if it would be safe underneath the pool table.

But so far, the tarnodoes are 1 1/2 hours drive away - but it is heading east.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't hit. I am also praying for the families and individuals who got a direct hit.

Back to quilting.

if it's getting close i'd say get out of town. pool table won't protect you in a tornado. better to be at a tornado-free zone than to stay & face it. i wouldn't play chicken with giant gusts of wind that can flip houses.

It's really hard to get out of town. Because out of town would have been going west - and west was where all the tornado was happening. And going east wouldn't have worked either, because then we would just have ended up in Boston stuck. Either way, warning was lifted last night at around 11:00.

The devastation it created is unbelievable, because we don't experience tornados in this area, so we really don't know what to do. It's like getting snow in the heart of Texas and people just don't know how to drive in snow.
