Baby Shower + A Pleasant Surprise the Next Day

May 22 2012,

This past weekend, we threw a baby shower for our expecting couple. The baby's expected arrival date is July 3rd. The party was suppose to be an all women only occasion, but a week before the party, we decided to have both men and women join the party.

The party favor is my best work, it's my attempt on being Martha Stewart.

1. Start with a box.
2. Cut scrapbook paper to the size of the box. Glue the paper onto all sides of the box.
3. Fold the cardboard into a box.

Inside the box, we put in a tin can of candy. These candies were bought after Easter. We picked out the blue, white, and yellow candies - discarding the pink ones, and placed into the tin candy. The candy only costs us a few dollars, due to the sale. A baby elephant was also placed into the party favor.

Inside the box, we put in fabric scraps. These fabric scraps were from the Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars quilt. Instead of buying paper stuffing, I used these fabric scraps as cushioning. Reuse, Reduce, Recycle.

Party Favors

Below are a few decorations from the party. The blue streamers were made out of regular copy paper and stitched with a sewing machine, and hung with packing tape on the crown molding. We had a lot of problem trying to figure out how to hang the streamers because it kept on falling down. Regular tape was not strong enough. We were about to resort to duct tape, but fortunately we did not have to do that, because our paint would peal.

We also bought the Baby's name from a local craft store and spelt it along the fireplace. We also had little stuffed animals that I found at a yard sale for .25 - .50 cents each. They were scattered around the house popping from the most unusual spots. We had a red beany baby dog popped on the television.

Our next door neighbor daughter, Julie, is the queen of Origami. She was kind enough to make the little cute and delicate elephants that we placed in front of "BRANDON".  They were so adorable and it added so much to the party.

Of course there was food. We ordered a lot of stuff. I always worry about the amount of food we have, and I always over do it. But it's ok. Better more than less. We had assorted sushi, thai summer rolls, beef teriyaki (complimentary from the chef), chicken sate, kim chee, two different pad thai's, cucumber salad, and strawberries.

Below are cupcakes that our dear Kristen made. They were amazing. They were so delicious. I had her make mini cupcakes, and she frosted them with green and blue icing. Yummy.

Below are some decorations that we hung in the dining room. These were made from scrap books paper cut into 2 x 2 inches and sewn together and hung with scotch tape. We made 25 of these.

The parents of baby Brandon went home happy on Saturday.

On Sunday, afternoon, we received a call and was told that the mother was in the hospital because she was experiencing some discomfort. At 9:35 pm on May 21 2012, Baby Brandon decided to pop out. Baby Brandon came out a whopping 5 pound 11 ounces and a healthy baby.

Yes, the food was wonderful. We found a local thai place that we always order from whenever we have a party. The chef threw in the beef teriyaki for free. As for the sushi assortment, it was a wide variety, and it did not cost an arm and a leg.

As for the artsy fartsy stuff, it just takes practice, as in anything else people take up. I bet with just a little practice, even you can sew a straight line!

a straight line with a slight curvature, maybe. :P
