"It's Not My Fault"

June 20 2010,

A client just called and said that his computer had a virus on it. He asked me what he could do about it. How do you tell a client that we can't tell you what to do, because that's our business? We fix things that you basically break. It's like asking a doctor how to assemble a part of a finger that you accidently cut with a rotary cutter. I know that's pretty extreme, but that's why there is the emergency room right?

So he called again, and started discussing how he would have gotten it on the computer. I said that somebody using his computer must have clicked on something by accident. He said that it must have been one of his kids, but when he watches them surf, they seem to be careful. He continues to ask how can one be a hundred percent immune from clicking on malwares, trojans and viruses.

I continued to explain to him that it is just surfing habits. Knowing what looks iffy, and what does not. I also said that I have not gotten a virus in years, of course he did not believe me. Well, believe it.

I like your idea of just turning everything off and stay off the computer. :)
