Show + Tell :: Star Burst

November 30 2011,

My latest quilt creation  is call "Star Burst" which measures approximately 92 x 60. This is a wall hanging that will eventually be hung in a hallway. Currently it hangs on the living room wall. This quilt consists of 400+ 602, 3 1/2 inch half quarter square triangles. It is machine pieced and machine quilted in the ditch.

The creation of this quilt was quite interesting. Originally this was suppose to be a table runner, but I realized that I had more pieces then necessary, thus the transition from a table runner to a wall hanging. Without any idea of how many pieces I had made, I started to lay it out on the floor without a design in mind. As I lay the pieces down, it slowly came together. Amazingly I was left with only two orphan squares! One of the orphan square was used as a piece on the back of the quilt, and the other one will be incorporated into the next quilt.

The light green background fabric, the one with the bubbles on them, have been sitting on the shelf for about a year. I finally took the courage to use it. The orange, dark purple. light purple, and light blue fabrics were on sale, the darker green fabrics were remnants from the "Through the Woods" and "Into The Forest" quilts, and the blue one from the "Circles in Heaven" quilt.

My next quilt will be similar to this, but instead of the green bubble background fabric, it will be a softer blue.

You may notice that my pictures will become progressively better. Instead of using a 10 year old digital hand me down camera, we purchased a point and shoot Nikon camera for my birthday (which was on Thanksgiving this year). You'll probably will start noticing more pictures being posted and better quality.

Stay tuned,
Quilt & Bitch
