We went to my first cousins once removed (my cousin's daughter) or whom I call my niece's graduation last weekend. This was also my high school alma mater. Note that she is a four year senior versus me a one year senior.
I remember fondly that the school taught that when you cross a street, we need to look at the vehicle who stopped for you and wave as a gesture to say thank you. Back then, many eons ago, they did not have a sign - but today they do. It's wonderful.
This habit of stopping, looking at the driver and waving to thank them for letting me walk on the cross walk has stuck with me through out the years.
Slowly but surely, I see more and more people doing this. Yes, even though it is a pedestrian's right of way when crossing on the cross walk, the small gesture creates a more friendly environment and that the pedestrian appreciates it.
