June 18 2018,
We got a surprise email from hubby's aunt in Colorado, Kay. She wrote and asked if we wanted Grandpa's chair. This is hubby's Grandpa. She sent along a picture of the chair. I immediately said yes.
After a little bit of research, I was right. The chair turns out to be a "Mr. Chair" by Mulhauser for Plycraft, categorized as "midcentury modern". Who would be silly enough to say no.
Unfortunately it was in Colorado and we needed to get it into the east coast.
So Aunt Kay brought it over to one of the shipping company that drives around in the brown trucks and had them packed and shipped it to us.
Below is the result. From past experience I learned that I should take pictures of everything just in case the inside was damaged.
And this is how they packed the inside. No joke.
I wrote to Aunt Kay asking her if she was aware of how the company had packed the chair. She said that she dropped it off and told the person to be careful with the chair and to pack it well. Knowing Aunt Kay, she immediately contacted the store where she shipped it from and complained.
After everything said and done, they reimbursed us for the shipping and packing and also an additional $100.00 because we had not bought additional insurance.
So there, if you want to do it right, you gotta do it yourself. Scary isn't it how they had attempted to pack an heirloom?
