'Nuf Said :: Epic Fail

January 8 2020,

Happy New Year!

Yesterday morning I went to the grocery store. After finishing shopping, on my way to the vehicle, the young man who was collecting the shopping carts walked past me and said, "Hi there! You don't look a day over 21!"

I blushed a little and smiled and said, "Thank you".

After I unloaded the groceries, I returned the shopping cart back into the store.

As I walked back out of the store, there was a lady next to me. The same guy walked past her and said, "Hi there! You don't look a day over 21!"

I smirked. It was what he said to all the ladies.

She said, "Thank you" to the guy, and mumbled to me, "He's lying."

As I drove off, I heard a bump bump. I said to myself, um... that doesn't sound right, and drove on. Then a lady behind me started high beaming me with her headlight. She then pulled over to the side and said that my groceries had fallen out. She then said, that it was at the top of the hill.

Go figure. It doesn't make sense. At this particular morning, I took the pick-up truck which has a cover over the bed. I had placed the groceries in the bed of the truck and that there was no way the groceries just fell out. I went back and retraced my step, and the lady had kindly put my groceries on the side of the road on the grass, inside the milk crate that I had placed them in. Everything was there and any damaged. I had the hindsight to put the eggs in the front seat with me.

Imagine, getting home and seeing that all the groceries were gone?

Hubby said that I must not have placed the groceries inside the bed of the truck, but on the cover of the truck. It doesn't make sense. Remember how I came out of the store the second time after returning the shopping cart inside the store? I would have noticed if the groceries were on top of the truck bed!

So that was my day yesterday morning in the span of 15 minutes. It was funny.

Oh,speaking of shopping carts - do you return your shopping cart to the right place or do you just drop the shopping cart wherever it lands? I won't tell. Here is an interesting article on Shopping Carts. "Why Don't People Return Their Shopping Carts?"

Happy New Year!

'Nuf Said :: Epic Fail

July 13 2018,

This is interesting.  We ordered weather stripping for a door.

It came.

Um... do you think there is a better way to be less wasteful?

'Nuf Said :: Making Lists

July 9 2018,

I love making lists for myself. I feel accomplished when I can check off what I need to do.

Note to self. But when you make the list, try to be descriptive enough that you aren't scratching your head when you reread the list, and wasting five minutes blogging about it saying that you forgot what you meant when you wrote it.

It defeats the purpose of making a list right if you don't understand it?

'Nuf Said :: Have A Seat

June 18 2018,

We got a surprise email from hubby's aunt in Colorado, Kay. She wrote and asked if we wanted Grandpa's chair. This is hubby's Grandpa. She sent along a picture of the chair. I immediately said yes.

After a little bit of research, I was right. The chair turns out to be a "Mr. Chair" by Mulhauser for Plycraft, categorized as "midcentury modern". Who would be silly enough to say no.

Unfortunately it was in Colorado and we needed to get it into the east coast.

So Aunt Kay brought it over to one of the shipping company that drives around in the brown trucks and had them packed and shipped it to us.

Below is the result. From past experience I learned that I should take pictures of everything just in case the inside was damaged.

And this is how they packed the inside. No joke.

I wrote to Aunt Kay asking her if she was aware of how the company had packed the chair. She said that she dropped it off and told the person to be careful with the chair and to pack it well. Knowing Aunt Kay, she immediately contacted the store where she shipped it from and complained.

After everything said and done, they reimbursed us for the shipping and packing and also an additional $100.00 because we had not bought additional insurance.

So there, if you want to do it right, you gotta do it yourself. Scary isn't it how they had attempted to pack an heirloom?

'Nuf Said :: Procrastination

June 11 2018,

Have you noticed that when you are procrastinating, you do everything else other than that thing you need to do?

Productive but unproductive.

Including this entry which does not necessarily have to be written, but it is. Go figure.

'Nuf Said :: Found but Lost

June 5 2018,

This past weekend hubby needed a blazer for an event. He went to the guest bedroom and looked through his clothes.

He called me into the bedroom and asked me why there was a set of clothes that was not his.

I answered, "How do I know."

Because we were in a hurry, I couldn't look at it more closely. I also offhandedly said that I had not been having a guy stay in this room behind his back. Hubby gives me a look of something along the lines of "Yah right," but didn't say anything.

When we got home later that night, we looked closely at the clothing. It definitely was not hubby's. Interestingly it had a white paper over the shoulder of the suit jacket indicating that it was cleaned at a local cleaner that I had only used once before. It did not look crisp, but instead worn and hung back onto the hanger. The shirt, ties and pants were on one hanger, and on another hanger, a blazer and a khaki pant. If it was cleaned, it wouldn't have been hung onto the same hanger, but instead individual hangers.

I went through my Rolodex in my head trying to think of all the guys who had stayed with us for the past few years. I have texted one person but have not gotten answer yet. Hopefully it is his.

Note - hubby gave me that "yah right" look as a joke.

Update : The person whom I texted actually called and told me that it was indeed his. Mystery solved. Interestingly, he was in that room about 2 - 3 years ago, even though we saw him a few months ago. I guess he did not miss his clothes.

'Nuf Said :: Finding Oneself

May 31 2018,

We went to a friend's house recently and she mentioned that they were going to buy a new car. She said that their car was 14 years old and that it was time for a new one. They currently own a Toyota Matrix.

Both hubby and I said, "Great! Which one?" We listed a few Japanese car models.

The wife said, "Nope."

The husband said, "She doesn't want a Japanese car, she wants a European car. She specifically wants the Audi Q7."

I said, "Oh".

I continued saying, "I would not get a German car, maintenance is going to be more expensive than a Japanese car, and my first Volkswagen Passat was a lemon. But that's just me."

She continues to say. "Yes, we only have one car, and I want to upgrade my life."

I remarked, "I hope you don't upgrade your friends too!" I know that was a mean statement, but I couldn't help myself.

The conversation continued with hubby doing most of the talking.

I reminded her that we too use to have only one car until we recently bought the pick up truck (the Honda). She changed the topic and snidely said, "Yes, since you have two cars, why don't you visit us with the second car." Quietly I rolled my eyes, and that's another story all together. Note, our Toyota Camry 2007 has 180,000 miles and I plan to keep it till there is no more life in it - 100,000 more miles).

Finally hubby said to her, "When you are buying a car, buy it because it makes YOU happy, not how you perceive people would think about you. If you drive the car and you love the car, great, buy it."

Her husband quietly nodded his head in agreement. I guess he had already lost the argument with his wife about what car to purchase.

So that was the end of the conversation.

'Nuf Said :: School Portraits

May 26 2018,

My School Portrait in 4th Grade

The other night, we were over for dinner at a friend's house and they mentioned that they received their son's class pictures.

The father was a little bit annoyed and said that his son was sent home with a package of pictures, all different sizes, without the normal "PROOF" watermark that usually appeared across the picture.

Here is what the note said that was included in the package.

Instead of doing the traditional way of letting parents look at the pictures and then sending in a check with what they want to order, they thrust the packet and make the parents feel guilty for not "participating" in supporting the school. Yes, even though it does say that you can return them, and returning the portraits counted as "full participation" a lot of things can happen. The school portraits can get lost between the home and the school or it can be left on the pile of papers and forgotten or it can fall in between the cracks of everyday life.

Do you agree with this method or not?

After much discussion - the father decides to send an email to the principal. Surprisingly that afternoon, the principal gave the father a call and apologized and realized that it was not the best method to sell the school portraits.

Interestingly, this particular school has school portraits twice a year. Once at the beginning of the school year and a second one almost at the end of the school year. That's really pushing it - I don't know if it is the school pushing for that or the company.

This is what I would do.

I would go to the principal's office with a brand new bike, the packet of pictures and a letter. A cost of a bike for a six year old ranges from $54.00 - $134.00. I would get one in the $100.00 price range. I would give it to the principal and walk away. In the note, I would tell the principal that I did not agree with the way the school was handling the school portraits. I would end it with something to the effect of, "And here's the raffle bicycle just in case the school does not get 'FULL PARTICIPATION' from all the parents."

Whether I follow through or not... that's another story. Umph.

'Nuf Said :: What's That Print?

May 7 2018,

I just finished putting on the first coat of stain on a stair thread. I put the stain on a rag, wiped in on the wood and wiped it right off. Then I realized that I should read the instructions because it had been a while since I stained something.

Guess what? I can't read it. The font was too skinny and small. WTF?

This reminded me a few months earlier when I had to stain and polyurethane the threshold between the hallway and the bathroom. The same thing happened, I couldn't read it! I had to take out the magnifying glass, squint a bit, turned it here and there to be able to read it.

Here's the instructions. Can you read it?

I don't know why the manufacturer did this. It doesn't make sense. Making it's time for reading glasses for me.

Here's the final result of the threshold. Pretty.

'Nuf Said :: An Oxymoron

April 27 2018,

On Monday evening I had a quilt guild meeting to attend. As I raced around the house looking for all the things I need to bring to the meeting, hubby said, "You are the most organized messy person I know."

Is that even possible?

Nuf ' Said :: You Just Gotta' Do It Yourself

February 14 2018,

The gift for Lily

Saturday afternoon.

Me: Can you wrap this gift for Lily?

Hubby: Yes, just leave it there.

Tuesday at 10:30 am. I take the gift with me to a meeting.

Hubby: Where are you going with that?

Me: I'm going to wrap it while I kill some time before the meeting.

On Tuesday at 12:35 pm before a meeting, I sit in the car and wrap the present.

Tuesday at 6:30 pm.

Hubby: What is that home depot box in the front.

Me: It's the gift for Lily.

Sunday early afternoon.

Me: Can you please return the plate next door?

Hubby: Yes, I'll take it on Tuesday. I have to change her door bell.

Tuesday at 4:30 pm.

Me: Did you go change the door bell next door?

Hubby: No, I was busy working on the cabinet downstairs.

Wednesday morning. I walk over and return the plate to our neighbor.

Sometime last week.

Me: Can you please vacuum the stairs before Chinese New Year?

Hubby: Yes.

It's Wednesday morning and it's not done yet. I understand, he was still making a mess in the area where the carpet is finishing the cabinet. Yes, it's a valid reason. How much money do you want to bet that I'm going to be vacuuming this on Thursday at 10:00 pm?

Why don't I learn. If I want it done, just do it myself. I'll go to the corner and cry now.

At least he washed the dishes last night.

Here's another example of it.

Happy Valentine's Day.

Happy New Year.

Yesterday was the quilt guild meeting.

The meeting went well till the very end.

I will leave it at that. As Judge Marilyn Milian says, "Say It; Forget It. Write It; Regret It".

I was going to write about the conversation, but I won't.

'Nuf Said :: REJECTED!

December 1 2017,

I took a quick walk this morning and noticed that a package was sitting on the garage side of the entrance.

Oh - my Fingerling came in.

To my disappointment, the package was opened. Sometimes UPS and Fedex puts packages out on the garage side instead of the front door.

I opened the package and noticed that the Bella Fingerling was still in there - but the packaging was damaged, but fortunately the item was not. Of course there is no more of these things available on Amazon.

I called Amazon - and gave me $5 promotional code. There's nothing much I can do, but still give this as a present.

So what I think happened was - someone got hold of the package, opened it, and realized it wasn't anything they wanted, and put it back in the envelope. I guess this toy is not as hot as I thought it was.

Or, they felt sorry that a kid would not get their Fingerling for Christmas.

But whatever the reason, I should be thankful I have it in my holds with no damage to the actual unit.

Two more Fingerlings on the way - hopefully they come in, in tack.

'Nuf Said :: So many fails...

November 26 2017,

What an exciting week I had.

After months and months of contemplation, I decided to make an Indonesian cake recipe call Kueh Lapis Legit. The recipe I used was from this site. If you look at the ingredients, it is pretty daunting. 15 egg yolks, 6 egg whites, 500 grams of salted butter (equivalent to 4 1/2 sticks of butter).

So this cake is made in layers. According to one site, there should be a "minimum of 18 layers (and preferably up to 30)". I was only able to make 9 layers before I ran out of batter.

Below is where I folded in the egg whites with the butter batter.

It ain't pretty - I won't say what it looks like.

Below is the first layer before it got broiled.

This is what it looked like after 2 minutes of broiling - oopps...  the heat was too high.

Then the second layer...

Below is the final result - not the prettiest Kue Lapis - probably the ugliest ever made.

You can't even see the different layers!

'Nuf said. This cake will end up in the trash - I put in brandy, and that was a big mistake - that's all I can taste in the cake. Yucky.

I will now turn to "Chocolate Therapy". Yummy.

Next fail...

During the week I noticed gnats flying around the house. Then hubby mentioned that the plants that I repotted at the end of the summer looked horrible. He and I discussed the possibility, and we came to the conclusion that it must be the potting soil.

Below is my 20 year old plant looking unhealthy. This plant has been with me from the very beginning of it all. She's seen it all.

Luckily our compost soil in the back yard had not frozen yet - hubby dug out two buckets of soil and we repotted two plants in the middle of the foyer. After a day or so, the plants are looking much better.

Below is the culprit. Moisture Control Potting Mix, my ass. Stay away from this - it destroys your plants, well, it almost destroyed my plants.

Then we went to a friend's place for Thanksgiving. Here is what hosting 30ish people look like. It takes a village to prepare such a Thanksgiving. My role in all this was cleaning up. There were a few "kids" (30 year old) that barely helped in the preparation or cleaning up. No comment.

Next fail.

So after Thanksgiving, we went to visit hubby's family. We drove from New York to Conneticut (approximately 2 hours away) and visited with them. As we started driving back to Boston, hubby realized he had forgotten his pool cue in New York. F***. F***. F***. He had a pool tournament the next day. We left Connecticut and 9:40 PM, and at 10:00 hubby realized what had happened. And at 10:15 we started driving back south to New York. We arrived in New York at 12:05 AM, picked up the pool cue and made a cup of coffee and arrived in Boston at 3:00 AM. Boy was I fuming. We could have been home at 11:40, but instead got home at 3:00 AM. I was pissed. Hubby was pissed. Not happy. By the morning, all is good.

Next fail.

Christmas lights. I don't get it - how can they stop working after a few years. I tried to "fix" it, changing the fuses - but it still didn't work. Some strands had no lights at all, some strands only had half the lights working. Off to the garbage.

Our Christmas lights are up - our decorations are up. The Christmas music is blasting. Let the celebration begin.

Bah Humbug.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
