Random Thoughts on.... Toilet Paper

August 18 2018,

Did you know that Charmin manufacturers a "Freedom Roll" that is 8.7" or 12.5" in diameter? The Charmin Mega Roll I have is 5.5" in diameter.

You can buy the "Frestanding Toilet Paper Holder" for $30.00 or you can do the starter kit "Free Roll Starter Kit for Multi User Bathroom (Free Holer)" and as of writing this piece it was $29.97. I think the stand is too short. So one roll, the 12.5" diameter, lasts for approximately one month.

Why did this topic come up?

I started asking myself "How much toilet paper does one person on average use."

Here's an interesting article "How Much Toilet Paper Is Used Per Year?" written by Sam Thompson dated, January 31, 2014. So the answer according to the article is, "On average, Americans use about 50 pounds annually or 57 squares of toilet tissue every day."

So the question is, one-ply, two-ply, or three-ply - doesn't that change things around?

Another website, "The Toilet Paper Encyclopedia" says that "The number of days a standard roll of bath tissue lasts in the most-used bathrooms in the house is five, according to Charmin customers."

Here's another statistic from March 2015 by Ken Gorgustin, "How Many Rolls Of Toilet Paper Do You Use Every Week?" The answer according to the poll is between 1 and 2.

In our household, with the two of us, we use less than 1 roll per week, and this is the mega roll.
